Sugar WOW
The Photographer’s Office / 2022 (English)

I NEVER WANTED TO BE A PHOTOGRAPHER.

At least, not professionally. Then again, I would argue that I just played being photographer for all my sweet clients with their beautiful commissions in fashion, cars, advertising, editorial, still life, book and art photography. Or is that actually being a pro?

I NEVER WANTED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL CANDY ARTIST EITHER.

Who wants that anyway?! The costs on health and senses are just too high.

Anyway, on a dull November day last year I received a call from my-sugar-sister-to-be. She proposed that I turn up the notch on both accounts: photography and candy. She demanded that I immediately go shopping, with an unlimited budget, for anything that would contain far too much sugar. Then bring all of it back to my studio, lock myself in and start creating rainbows for half a year. Not just one, but endless rainbows! She literally threw me into a huge pot of candy.

One might even say: I WAS FORCE-FED CANDY – mentally but also physically. And when I came out the other side EVERYTHING WAS CANDY TO ME: my friends, my home, my art, my food, my drinks, the news and generally my entire environment. What a trip. I started creating the sugar-hell out of it. My recipe for success: boiling everything down to the very sweet essence, letting it cool, then the sugar coating starts and finally a cherry goes on top (or alternatively a handful of multi-coloured sprinkles): Uarrgh! A bit disgusting, right? And yet so sweet.
